Inspired by nevicatosotto's food blog I must tell you all that THE ONLY GOOD THING about winter in the eternal city is the constant importation of 'Clementines' sweet juicy fresh easy-to-peel tangerines from Sicily.
Nevicato loves them-he's a fruity type, like Gil, like my bro Lewis..
I just returned from the SMA, the grocery store across the street (it used to be a GS) with a new bag of'em.
Rosalyn and I shall hopefuly meet each other in the upstairs portion of the bookstore inside Stazione Termini ( Central train station) roundabout 6:30 this eve. Later we plan on going to Vassilis' the Greek photographer who's shop is near the SMA, for dinner and New Year's antics.
Curry Chicken, artichokes, cheese plate and gorgonzola walnut raisen salad are on the menu instead of the traditional lentils and sausages the Romans believe bring them good upcoming money fortune in the next year. I LOVE lentils, but who wants to cook'em all day?
Vas and his egyptian/italian girlfriend have several golden labs and generally doggies aren't fond of explosive bangs so we'll just have to see how the pooches fare at mezzanotte..Italians are big into fireworks on New Years, every new year many of them blow off some fingers or arms as many of the explosives are illegally manufacured in Napoli by the Camorra- who DON'T care much if people are injured as long as they buy contraband goods.
Unfortunately, Pippo is one of the firework lighting Italians as is Zach, my neighbor Brett's 17 year old son..I just hope everyone returns home safely senza dog bites and con fingers, hands, arms, intact.
I am sitting down for lunch alone..tortellini con mushrooms, ham and peas. I added a mysterious cube of 'MAGIA CREMOSA' a substance with italian parsley in it that advertises to turn sauces creamy, buh.
